Wellness Testing for Diabetes, Thyroid Disease & Hormonal Imbalances
Testing and analysis is a significant part of our wellness services at Family Weight & Wellness Clinic and Medi-Spa in The Woodlands, Texas. It’s important to identify and treat chronic conditions such as thyroid disease, type 2 diabetes, and hormonal imbalances to avoid complications and remain healthy.
We offer a number of tests to help assess your current state of wellness and predict future health risks. Dr. Larry Richardson will discuss the results with you and explain any medical treatments he feels will benefit you. Learn more below about the tests we offer.
Are you always tired? Does your weight fluctuate?
It may be the result of a dysfunctional thyroid. If there is a thyroid level imbalance in your body, you may be more susceptible to everything from osteoporosis and heart disease to infertility and fatigue.
Thyroid disorders are more common in women and they often occur after pregnancy and with older age. Find out now if you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) or an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism).
Medical research is finding earlier markers for future health problems, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Some of these indicators include lab testing to identify prediabetes (before fasting blood sugar is in the diabetic range) and metabolic syndrome.
Prediabetes, without intervention, is likely to become type 2 diabetes within 10 years.
Many people with prediabetes have no symptoms. Progression from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes isn't inevitable. With lifestyle changes, weight loss, and medications, it's possible to bring blood sugar levels back to normal.
Metabolic syndrome includes high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol levels. The syndrome increases a person's risk for heart attack and stroke.
Aside from a large waist circumference, most of the disorders associated with metabolic syndrome have no symptoms. Weight loss, exercise, a healthy diet, and smoking cessation can help. Medications may also be prescribed.
Both women and men experience significant changes in hormones after the mid-to-late 20s, making bioidentical hormonal agent replacement therapy recommended.
Women enter "perimenopause" around 10-15 years prior to the beginning of menopause, over which time their hormones slowly decline. Men also have hormonal shifts throughout much of mid-to-late adulthood and often see benefits in health risk profiles, stamina, and strength by optimizing deficient hormones.
Our goal is to help you accomplish optimal health through hormonal balance. We utilize an extensive blood test to determine which hormones your body lacks and which ones you have in excess. We then personalize a program tailored to your unique needs.
A comprehensive metabolic panel is a blood test that measures your sugar (glucose) level, electrolyte and fluid balance, kidney function, and liver function. This test is commonly ordered during an annual physical exam.
Why take a handful of vitamins without understanding what your body really needs? When your immune system is under stress from reoccurring allergic reactions or infection, your body's reserves of vitamins, nutrients, and minerals are depleted. These must be renewed.
We offer analysis to identify what vitamins your body lacks or for which there are non-optimal levels. The details from the test will help to uncover which vitamins and minerals should be supplemented to meet your body’s needs.
Body composition is the identification of fat and fat-free mass in your body. A healthy body composition is one that includes a lower percentage of body fat and a higher percentage of fat-free mass, which includes muscle, bones, and organs.
This measurement is used to assess your health and fitness level. Often, you will have body composition measured at the start of a weight loss or fitness program and checked periodically to monitor your progress.
Our 3D full body scanner assembles a 3-dimensional model from more than 600 infrared images taken in seconds. The 3D model can be rotated, panned, and zoomed to evaluate each body part in great detail.
Once a model is created, advanced feature recognition technology automatically finds detailed landmarks on the body (e.g. hip, bust point, etc.), which are used to extract circumferences, volume, and surface areas for various regions of the body. Utilizing these measurements, generalized health risk assessments can be obtained and followed over time (with multiple scan comparisons).
