Larry Richardson, MD, MFOMA
Founder, Medical Director, Advanced Injector, Weight Loss Physician
Dr. Larry Richardson is an obesity medicine physician with 30 years of experience in medical weight management. He specializes in the study and science of overweight, obesity, and associated conditions.
A graduate of Houston Baptist University, Dr. Richardson earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He then completed his internship and residency in emergency medicine at Youngstown (Ohio) Hospital Association, where he was chief resident.
Dr. Richardson began his career as an emergency medicine physician. He enjoyed the satisfaction and adrenaline rush of working with patients needing acute care. Over time, however, he noticed a disturbing trend of younger and younger patients coming to the emergency room with diabetes, hypertension, heart attacks, and strokes.
Many of those individuals were overweight, obese, or morbidly obese. He came to realize that a better way for him to treat such patients would be to help them reduce their weight before they developed the medical complications (including death) that he was seeing in the emergency department.
As a result, he educated himself in the field of medical weight management so that he could become both a teacher and a deliverer of better preventive health care. Knowing that even top athletes benefit by having a good coach, Dr. Richardson tries to be the best coach for all his patients.
In his quest for knowledge and training, Dr. Richardson joined the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (now called the Obesity Medicine Association), whereby he eventually led that group as president for two terms and also served as chairman of the board. He eventually earned the honor of becoming a fellow and then a master fellow (MFOMA) of the Obesity Medicine Association. In addition, he received the Dr. Raymond E. Dietz Meritorious Service Award in 2010 and the Obesity Medicine Clinician of the Year Award in 1996.
Dr. Richardson has taken and passed the specialty testing for advanced obesity certification, which allowed him to become a diplomate of the American Board of Bariatric Medicine and its subsequent replacement, the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
Part of his current mission now is to train other doctors in treating obesity and its associated medical complications. He tries to have his patients not only focus on a specific number on the scale, but to teach them healthy lifestyles and habits that will sustain them and their families throughout life. His emphasis is not on dieting as much as it is on healthy eating, appropriate exercise, and behavior changes.
Dr. Richardson’s practice provides simplified nutritional information, which helps each patient experience success in losing and controlling weight by following individualized guidance. His program has been in place for over 30 years of actual practice, resulting in many thousands of patient success stories!
Grace J. Richardson
Practice Manager; Patients Advocate; Member of the American Med Spa Association
Coming from a medical family, Grace saw the importance of medical care and its impact on people’s health and quality of life.
Having previously been an assistant professor with a Master’s degree, Grace always had a passion for knowledge and self-improvement. This led Grace to augment her education in the medical arena.
During her work at Family Weight & Wellness Clinic and Medi-Spa, Grace continued her studies in nutrition and supplements — often the root cause for most imbalances. She is also expertly trained by Allergan® to consult on Botox® and Juvéderm® procedures.
Similar to Richardson’s weight and wellness program, Grace focuses on results that are enriching, vibrant, and lasting. She takes pride in helping her patients look and feel their best.
As the office practice manager, her customer service skills give her a strong belief that care, respect, and consideration create an even stronger sense of self and community.
Grace ensures that the environment at Family Weight & Wellness is a warm and caring place for both our patients and each other. She strives to give each patient a positive, welcoming, and lasting experience.
After work, she likes spending quality time with her family, cooking, dining out with her hubby, gardening, walking her doggy, and traveling.
